The Three P's: The Key Elements of heARTwork

Hello Again!

And welcome to heARTwork by Kara Shea Jonsson! If you haven’t yet, be sure to read about the history of heARTwork. Today, I want to talk about the three key elements this business is founded on and teaches. Passion, Professionalism, and Personal Development. I believe that the key to a comprehensive artistic lifestyle is a combination of these three areas in our everyday lives. Let’s start by defining each of these areas!

To begin, I want to share the following graphic with you. It’s the heARTwork Venn Diagram. This shows how we can be in relationship with two out of the three P’s or living within just one. The best place we can be is right in the center. Accessing all three parts of development.

Passion is the open ended creative time we spend tapping into the core of our artistic being. That’s a really elaborate way of saying it's the way you used to dance in your room when you were a little kid. Or the songs you used to belt out in the car without a care in the world. Its freedom, its non judgemental, it's the truest version of who you are as an artist. For me, this is heARTwork. An online business that was referred to as the “Passion Project” for many many months. It’s a realization of the dreams I filled notebooks with as a young girl.

Then there is Professionalism. This is the industry knowledge, connections, and habits you need to maintain in order to progress. The day to day obligations that require your best foot to be put forward. In my life, this is days spent in the office, rehearsals at night, and interviews or emails with colleagues as I build my business.

Finally, there is Personal Development, these are the hands on tasks I do every day to stay at the top of my game and maintain my best self. In the past year, I have developed a series of financial habits, nutrition and exercise routines, and mental health practices.

How I Found the Three P’s

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a little story about how I discovered and defined the three key elements for myself! Also, I want to say that these three things can be very different for every person. They are broad terms for a reason, and I hope that you use them to the best of their ability in your life!

I am a big fan of to-do lists and planners. Anyone who knows me knows that I can get unreasonably excited about my personal organization. At the moment I am a huge fan of Trello, an online place to hold all your To Do lists and manage any projects or tasks you’re working on. I keep three boards on Trello, each of which held lists for certain aspects of my life. As I started to place more projects into each board I found myself categorizing. Tasks for work? Board number one. Tasks for myself? Board number two. Tasks for heARTwork? Board number three. Over time I wanted to clean up my boards and was hit with a realization. Each board was devoted to one of the key elements. Immediately I got to thinking and freewriting about what this means for the individual. And ultimately came up with heARTwork’s Venn Diagram!
